UnanimousMovie Preview Vignette - Take a Look Inside

2010 June 23
No Comments

For your viewing pleasure, I present a 10 minute rough informal vignette from Unanimous.  It gives a sampling of the different types of interviews that will be in the film (different people, different places, and different types of interviews) as well as revealing a few topics.  If your project, interview or self-interview footage wasn't used, do not worry, this is only a very small sampling of what will be in the final film, which will feature music, effects, and other segments not featured in this vignette.

Though Unanimous is almost completely wrapped, there are a few projects on which I need help.  I am still desperately seeking someone who can create computer animated talking figures (Mr. Earth, Mr Spaceman, Ms Spacewoman, animals), so if you have that skill, please get in touch with me. I am also looking for a backup plan should I not be able to get animators, which is puppetry.  If anyone has puppetry skills and a good video camera and is willing to spend about 30 mins of their time to contribute to the film, please let me know.  I have voice actors standing by, all I need are talking figures.

If you would still like to participate in Unanimous, you are welcome, but please note:  I need *only* people dedicated to completing the project to volunteer.  If you feel you can and will commit to a project, let me know how and what you'd like to do, and we'll go from there (@Oceanchick99 on twitter). The website is covered in projects from really short, quick self-interviews to cold walk-up interviews to projects requiring special skills.  If you don't have time to participate, donations are always welcome as the entire film has been made out of pocket.

The projected release of the documentary Unanimous is Fall 2010.  You will be able to view it here at www.unanimousmovie.com for free.

High 5: Laone Tina Collins, Director of Unanimous

May 28th, 2010 - By Elizabeth Howell

Every week, Pars3c profiles an interesting person with connections in the space field. This time it’s Laone Tina Collins (@Oceanchick99), a documentary filmmaker working on the first crowdsourced movie about space. It’s calledUnaminous.

As Collins tells Pars3c, space is a prime environment to bring out international co-operation. But that’s not to say things are always rosy when working in space, or working on a movie.

Col TJ Creamer Interview by Unanimous Production, International Space Station April 21, 2010I never imagined mysef to be in the position that I am in now when I won a slot in the STS-129 NASA Tweetup.  I interviewed a man in space today. A year ago I would never have imagined that could have happened. Yet, here I am, making a social media based collaborative documentary with people from around the world contributing self-interviews, animations, video clips, music, graphics, and more…AND I interviewed a man in space today. I am very blessed to have met and worked with so many of you, and I appreciate everyone who has contributed and supported me in this endeavor.

How To Create Your Self-Interview Opinion Project

2010 April 19
No Comments

Starting Your Self Interview

To begin, state your name and your twitter id. You can state your state and/or country.

You can rant, rave, be comedic, be serious, hold up pictures, make an edited video, anything! It’s wide open. Be creative and have fun. All I ask is that it is well lit, in focus and that you are wearing clothes.

Below are a few things you may wish to speak about:

Current Space & Earth Work

  • When you think of NASA, do you immediately think of space or do you also think of earth sciences?
  • How do you feel about the importance of working in space?
  • Do you have an opinion about whether we should continue to send humans into space or do you think robotic exploration is better?
  • How do you feel about NASA’s budget?
  • How do you feel about how NASA delegates its budget among its programs?
  • Do you think that NASA should delegate more money for earth sciences or for space exploration? Why?
  • Do you feel we should continue exploring Mars?
  • How do you feel about continuing to explore the Moon?
  • Do you feel we should continue to use orbiting space satellites to monitor climate change and weather on Earth?
  • How do you feel about continuing to monitor near-Earth asteroids and comets?
  • Do you think we should continue searching for extra-terrestrial life?

How Space and Space related Earth science News is disseminated

  • Do you feel that space related news is covered well by your city/state/country media?
  • How often do you see space news in the headlines?
  • What do people you know think about Nasa and/or working in space?
  • Are your children exposed to Nasa space and earth science studies in school?

National and International Relations

  • Do you feel that your country should be the leader in space exploration? Why
  • Does your country have strong national pride over it’s space program? Why?
  • Do you believe that working together with people from other countries opens doors to having more peaceful relationships with them? Why?
  • Do you feel that nations should participate in more international cooperative space missions? Why?

Future - Once the technology is available:

  • How do you feel about building settlements on the moon?
  • How do you feel about mining asteroids for minerals?
  • How do you feel about launching private solar sail missions?
  • How do you feel about space activities being commercialized?
  • How do you feel about privatizing launch vehicles?

So cummon, grab that webcam (you know you have one) and let us have your opinion. It’s fun and you can be part of something really special.

Once the interview is done, DM me and let me know, and include your email address so that I can reach you should I have any questions about your interview. I will not sell, rent, give, loan any personal information that I receive. Privacy matters.

When you’re done, you can upload it to me. >>Here is how.<<

If you have any questions, you can always reach me via twitter. @Oceanchick99

Spring Springs More Progress

2010 March 19
No Comments

Spring is on the way, so many of us are coming out of hibernation. The change in season and days of sun has had a positive effect on my energy levels and general situation.

General reminder to those who have volunteered on projects, PLEASE complete them or PLEASE have the courtesy to let me know that you cannot finish them asap so that I can attempt to reassign. It is very very important because I am on a very tight deadline with my editor and delays or abandoned projects royally screw with that timeline. I trust my volunteers to be honest with me and themselves, enough said.

I’m up to my knees in the frankfilm homage sequence clippings. I’ve gone through two pairs of scissors and my hand definitely needs a break from all the cutting and clipping. My special background papers came today and as soon as my re-stickable glue arrives, I’ll be ready to start on some basic filming for the sequence. I’m very much looking forward to it. It’s my “creative” segment of the documentary.

My in-flight interview with @Astro_TJTJ Creamer, a Nasa astronaut onboard the ISS has been rescheduled for April 20. I am very excited about getting this interview regardless of the push-back. Gives me more time to work on questions.

If anyone has any connection with people at ESA or JAXA, I would love an interview with a few of them. Please message me so that I can work that out. Self interviews are also possible with them if they aren’t able to give time for a standard interview.

Above and Beyond Kudos

Special thanks to @TinyPearlCat for helping me collect images for the frankfilm homage sequence. Her first packet was astoundingly helpful, not to mention the special early years of Nasa stuff she included. She went above and beyond, and I am truly grateful.

Special thanks to @ZippyG2 for his continual help and completion on every research aspect he’s been asked to do. He recently completed a very time intensive project and has accepted another. His dedication has helped me many times when I have become frustrated, and I am so very thankful for someone who I can rely on to follow through with anything that is asked. Glenn, “Chief” thanks and appreciates you.

Special thanks to @bph who continues to update and make changes to the website keeping it up to date on newsworthy notes and for the work she has done behind the scenes making things happen. This lady is unstoppable and I am blessed to have her on my team.

It’s Not Too Late to Contribute

There are many ways to contribute to Unanimous. You can interview yourself, others, help out on research, record yourself talking about how space news is covered in your country/region, provide special skills (animation, photoshop, music) and more! Take a moment to read through the site and find a project you would like to do. Toss me a line on twitter to @Oceanchick99 and let me know. Everyone is welcome to participate, and reliable volunteers are greatly needed. Deadline for new volunteers to complete projects is March 30. Vimeo transfer will speed up receipt of interviews.

Walk-up Interviews on Times Square

2010 March 18

@Craftlass and I made the trip to NYC Times Square where we successfully filmed 22 walk-up interviews using materials available in the “Cold Walk-up Interview Packet”. The questions worked well, as did the identification segment. We were able to gather many different views on Nasa, space work, manned vs unmanned space travel, and whether or not people believe Nasa is important or not…all with very little hassle from the NYPD. All in all, the trip was a success and we are very excited about the cross-section of people interviewed. It was also interesting to see how much and how little people knew, which we noted is based on how and when people interviewed receive their news. Another trip to NYC is planned to get more interviews later in the month.

I highly encourage anyone with a video camera (with sound) to participate in the Cold Walk-up Interview project as it is extremely educational to hear opinions of those who may not be “into” space. From conspiracy theories, thoughts on Nasa’s budget, pro-space and against space…everyone has a unique opinion and that is enlightening to hear. I stood there filming and thinking, “omg, i can’t believe i’ve got this person on tape!”, in a good way. Each interview was worth every second spent doing them in more ways than just for the documentary. It was a way to get random people’s opinions, people i would never have reason to speak to otherwise. That in itself is a great experience. There is still time to do interviews if you are interested.

Collaboration Projects released!

2010 February 25
No Comments

Unanimous is slowly reaching its first set of deadlines. A lot of time intensive research projects have been assigned and fingers are crossed that things come together with those. I have faith in all the wonderful people who have been working over the last months and look forward to receiving your research.

Please keep in mind that your deadlines are important because I cannot start on what I need to do until I get what YOU have done. For some of you, your research project is the 1st step in a long line of things that need to be done, so I am very dependent on your follow-through. I know each of you are and will try hard, and I am so appreciative. This is so not “my” documentary, this is OUR documentary. It is something for which we can Unanimously be proud. I know I am personally proud to be part of the unique twitter and facebook communities that have brought us all together. What a wonderful group of people, mostly strangers to each other, to have working together. It is awe inspiring. It is an incredible feat. The challenges, obstacles, and lack of budget makes this documentary something hand tailored for Guinness Book of World Records!!!

So….we have loads more work to do and we desperately need your help. Since this is not a 20 minute “we had fun at the shuttle launch” documentary but a historical first ever feature length social media based internationally collaborative volunteer based budget-less documentary, we have a lot more work to be done. I have done my best to make this documentary versatile and appeal to everyone in participating and viewing, not just people who like space, so if you are a space lover or not…you are welcome to participate. We want you to participate. You can make history with us. If we work together Unanimously, we can make this documentary viral and make a statement that people from all around the globe CAN come and work together in peace.

With that in mind, I’m ready to put-cha to work. Below are several projects that I know that at least one will appeal to someone.
