We are looking for an editor to work with us to complete this very special documentary. Unlike most documentaries, the purpose of Unanimous is not to explain past events or to express the views and beliefs of the filmmakers. Instead, our approach is to solicit the views of real people who have an opinion about the space program, and combine them with special materials we’ve gotten through direct cooperation from NASA. This documentary will not be sold, but rather streamed for free on the internet, so it will have great exposure, and based on feedback received so far we expect thousands of views on the first day alone.
Footage that we have for the documentary includes:
- A live Interview with Astronaut TJ Creamer while he was in-flight on the ISS, set up specifically for us by NASA.
- Footage of other NASA astronauts speaking about their views on the role of NASA and its importance for global cooperation.
- Interviews with scientists that work for NASA and its affiliates.
- Interview with NASA’s outreach director.
- Self-interviews from people all over the world who have something to say about the space program.
- 4+ hours of “man on the street” interviews done in NYC’s Times Square which include viewpoints of people from around the world.
- “Talking cat” videos made by Klaatu42 of YouTube fame.
- NASA Audio CDs, DVDs and computer data disks provided by NASA.
Other unique features that we are currently working on include:
- Spinoffs: NASA and You - A FrankFilm inspired Stop Motion Animation sequence.
- NASA in photos: rapid slideshow sequence, incorporating more than 10,000 images.
We are looking for an editor who has extensive knowledge of Final Cut Pro and AfterEffects and is up to the challenge of working with many different types of footage, including DVCs, CDs, DVDs (including old DVDs received from NASA), memory cards, iMovie clips, .MOVs, “reel to reel” audio tapes and more, and has access to all the equipment necessary to work with them and to convert them into editable format. Special software might be needed to convert the old NASA DVDs. Animation skills, a reel to reel player, or knowledge of titles/opticals would be a plus.
Skilled editors with their own equipment who may be in between jobs are welcome. Professional, experienced editors preferred. Students welcome but only during a semester break. Because of issues we’ve had with past “volunteer” editors, we require 3-day reports of progress (daily reports for student editors), and a confidentiality agreement.
Because this is an all-volunteer “zero budget” documentary, we have been relying on people’s contributions and NASA’s cooperation. But we realize that editing this together will take a significant amount of work, and that in order to attract the caliber of editor we are looking for, we are offering compensation once the work is completed (or payment in stages once certain work is completed). We’re in the process of raising funds now—please @ me on Twitter (Oceanchick99) or at UnanimousMovie(at)gmail(dot)com. If you think you meet these qualifications and let’s talk about how you can be a part of the Unanimous project!
